Actor and poetess Kavitta Verma, who was last seen in Bejoy Nambiar’s Kaala on Disney+ Hotstar, recently opened up about the rising dependence on AI and social media for emotional support, and the growing loneliness in the digital age. With recent data revealing that over 5.5 lakh ChatGPT users are struggling with mental health issues, the actress shared a deeply reflective take on the subject.
“In a fast-moving world, technology is definitely a help, but one has to understand the judicious use of it. Anything in excess is a no,” says Kavitta. “All of this has created a void between people, and that’s where loneliness seeps in.” Kavitta believes that the key lies in learning the difference between enjoying one’s own company and feeling lonely in it. “Learning to love one’s own company and getting exhausted with oneself and feeling lonely are two poles apart,” she explains. “You make choices and then your choices make and shape you.”

The actress also reflected on how people are striving for digital perfection rather than real happiness. “People want to stay perfect in a virtual world, but life is not about postings and filters,” she says. “A human connection subscription has no expiry date, and we are all born of it.” When asked about how she maintains her own balance in an increasingly digital environment, Kavitta shared, “Digital or virtual platforms are good to tell a part of your life, but they are not your entire life. I feel each person has to create a balance on their own.” As conversations around responsible tech use and mental health gain momentum, Kavitta emphasizes the importance of awareness and self-discipline over blame. “Technology isn’t the enemy, it’s about how we use it,” she adds. “I’m sure ChatGPT can also find people ways to be happy with themselves.”
